Corsairs Rumble with Bulldogs in Tie
Coming off of a convincing 4-1 win at Moorpark last week, the Santa Monica Corsairs hosted the Allan Hancock Bulldogs at the Corsair Field on October 31, 2017. The Corsairs came into this game with a record of 12-1-4, best in the division.
After a few near misses, the Corsairs got on the board with Carlos Rincon's team leading 10th goal of the season, coming off cross-field pass from Cyrille Njomo, taking a 1-0 lead. It would remain a 1-0 score at the end of the first half.
However, in about seven minutes into the second half, the Allan Hancock Bulldogs would respond on a goal from Francisco Ayala to tie the game 1-1. Both teams came out strong with excellent defense on both ends of the field. The two teams were gaining momentum within the final minutes of the game offensively. For the Corsairs, a near miss came back to haunt them as Njomo was unable to capitalize from in front of the net within the final two minutes of the game. The score would end in 1-1 tie.
The Corsairs have not recorded a single loss in the last 11 games, which is a remarkable feat. When asked about the missed opportunity on the missed on goal in the final minute, Corsairs Head Coach Tim Pierce said, "We won a couple of header challenges. I don't think that Cyrille realized how much time he had because he probably could have brought it down and finished." When asked about his 10th goal of the year, Rincon said, "Just doing a regular job like always, easy work, and just put it in the back of the net."
