On Friday, March 16, the 2018 Associated Students election will formally begin when all applications are due from Santa Monica College students who wish to run for the 13 vacant positions. Students must turn in all their candidate paperwork by 3 p.m. to the A.S. office, located in the Cayton Center room 202.

Eligibility for A.S. positions includes the following: candidates must have at least a 2.0 grade point average and submit a petition with at least 50 signatures from Santa Monica College students; the rest of the requirements can be found here.

All interested students must attend one of the mandatory meetings that will be held. The first meeting will be on March 14 at 4 p.m., the second on March 15 at 11:15 a.m. and the last one on March 16 at 11 a.m. All sessions will take place in the Cayton Center room 206.

Campaigning then begins on Monday, March 26, and elections will be held during the week of April 2 on SMC's main campus. Students can vote online starting April 2 at midnight while polls will close on April 5 at 11:59 p.m.

A.S. president, vice president, and director of student Advocacy are just a few of the open positions, the and all of their responsibilities can be seen here.

Current A.S. president Jennifer Chen shared some advice for applicants, saying: "Get yourself out there, talk to as many students as possible and really look at the election packet as well as what responsibilities and job each director will be doing, you really need to know the A.S. constitution."
