The Corsair Women's Softball Team Displaying Dominance

The 2019 Corsair Women's Softball team is on their way to a terrific season led by, Head Coach Christine Druckman who has led her team to a 13-7 record in her first year coaching at Santa Monica College (SMC). The team boasts new talented players led by Pitcher Ireland Miessau(#22), along with outstanding hitting from shortstop Emma Soto(#5), and second-baseman Taylor Scott (#37). Compared to last year's team, this years members are batting it out of the park.
"They're hungry, they really want the wins," says Coach Druckman, between their double header against Compton College. Watching this team you can sense the hunger, and their willingness to do anything to help the team win with their interchangeable players.
When asked what she thinks about Miessau, Soto said, "She's been on." While the praise for their pitcher is deserving, Soto, who deserves credit for her exceptional hitting and her versatility on the defensive side has impacted the team. Soto is one of the top hitters on the team, in her first year playing for the Corsairs making an indisputable impact, scoring 12 runs on 21 hits, with an on base percentage (OBP) of .466.
Miessau, is a first year player at SMC, who came from a Division-I school, has earned a record of 5-2 as a starting pitcher, an earned run average (ERA) of 2.242, with a fastball & riser that is capable of striking out any batter that steps up to the plate. What is more impressive is that she's more than capable of going the distance in most games, as she proved in the first game of the doubleheader against Compton College on March 9, she can completely shutout opponents.
The Corsairs are also equipped with Taylor Scott (#37) who is in her first year playing at the school, coming from St. Louis, Missouri. Scott has accumulated a batting average (BA) of .500 on 52 at bats (AB). She also has an OPB of .567, scoring 22 runs, while also helping her teammates out with 8 runs batted in (RBI). Scott is also versatile on the defensive side being able to play both second-base and catcher. Her skills were on display at the bottom of the 3rd inning against Compton College. She hit a RBI, stole a base, and had a run set up by Emma Soto who went on to have the same sequence and success that Scott had.
It'll be interesting to see the outcomes, as this team heads down the stretch and see if their regular season success can carry into the playoffs and make for a special postseason. Coach Druckman's forecast for this team is to continue to accumulate wins. "Wins, wins, wins, wins, that's what we go for."
The Corsairs will be on the road on April 2 to face off against Cuesta College. Their next home will be on Thursday, April 4 against Bakersfield at John Adams Middle School Field.
