A Look at International Student Life at SMC

Santa Monica College has more than 3,000 international students and is recognized as one of the best community colleges in California. But what is it like for these international students to be far from home? What are the pros and cons of living in Los Angeles? What is new and different compared to their home country?

It is not easy to move to a new country and to start studying in a different school system.

In this project, Jude Dias our field reporter, demonstrates how diversity is one of the primary characteristics of Santa Monica College and how such inclusion of different cultures and peoples empowers the interviewed students on a daily basis.

From Germany to Japan, Paraguay to Sweden, Dias captures five different international students' experiences within the United States and SMC and the differences from their respective native countries.
