Impeachment: Why Ukraine Matters
The United States is currently embattled in a clash of narratives. President Donald Trump is currently under investigation for abuse of presidential power in the House of Representatives. The investigations center on Trump's conduct with regard to Ukraine, specifically his July 25 phone call where he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for political favor while at the same time withholding from Ukraine $400 million in congressionally appropriated military aid, which was only later released by the president due to political pressure.
"Rhinoceros" Stampedes at SMC's Main Stage
"Rhinoceros," a production directed by Santa Monica College (SMC) Theatre’s Terrin Adair-Lynch, made its debut Friday, Nov. 22 at the school's Main Stage. The play, written by Eugene Ionesco in 1959, focuses on the transformation of a normal town into something unrecognizable to itself.

All the chairs were taken at the second-floor community room at the Santa Monica Public Library on Wed. Oct. 16. Serving up her own birthday cake, art therapist and peace activist Marissa Rubin greeted attendees of Santa Monica CityTV producer Madeleine Gallagher's film, "Art and Activism." As part of the station’s “Wave” series, the film explored the impact that artists have on local communities with respect to environmental justice. It featured artists like Mary Kelly and Ron Finley, as well as Marissa’s husband, Jerry Rubin.
SMC Hosts Former CA Poet Laureate Dana Gioia
Choosing to ditch his microphone and orate directly to the audience, Gioia presented testimonies to the art of experience and the passing of time. The poems Hot Summer Nights and Psalm of the Heights explore a tableau of the city; each experience is unique, including dynamic and entangled relationships. The poems meditate on the human condition from a point of observation and reflection.
President Donald J. Trump Visits California
Pedestrians walking along Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, Calif. cheered on protester Therese Sweeney on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 17. Therese, a 68 year old retiree, wooed honks from cars stuck in rush hour traffic, as a group of LAPD officers monitoring President Trump’s arrival huddled up for a coffee break nearby. Therese was one of the peaceful demonstrators who turned out to protest the President’s arrival at Santa Monica Airport on one of his infrequent visits to California.

People quickly filled the bottom and mezzanine levels of the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 22, all to see Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren speak in a town hall style event. Fernando Vargas was in attendance and cited Warren’s, “progressive agenda,” as his draw to the town hall.
