Woolsey Fire Aftermath
A giant Menorah, marking the location of Camp Hess Kramer and Gindling Hilltop, escapes damage from the Woolsey fire and remains standing on November 13, 2018 on a hillside known as Rabbi Alfred Wolf Inspiration Point in Malibu, Calif. Rabbi Alfred Wolf joined the Wilshire Boulevard Temple and helped found both camps in 1952. The camp provided a space that was nurturing to the Jewish community and identity. The camp also became an ally to the Chicano community and hosted the Chicano Youth Leadership Conference (CYLC) that helped nurture the Chicano movement. (Jose Lopez)
Home owners from Thousand Oaks to Malibu, California, have felt the wrath of the Woolsey Fire as it has burned more than 97,000 acres and has been responsible for 3 fatalities and 3 firefighter injuries. Firefighters have been able to contain up to 47% of the fire to date, which has given some people the ability to go back to their homes. Unfortunately for some, there is very little to go back to.
