Main Street Reflections in the COVID Recession

In the surreal six months we’ve lived through since restrictions on our lives began, one of the most obvious signs of dislocation have been the shuttered stores. There were approximately 20 vacant stores on Main Street, Santa Monica, in mid-March when restrictions on businesses began, and since then many of the stores that shuttered because of the pandemic have been permanently vacated. The sight of so many empty shops on a still vibrant street feels strange. But these are strange times.
