Tennis Dominates
In a conference match against the Allan Hancock College Bulldogs (1-6, 0-5), the Santa Monica College women's tennis team notched another conference victory defeating the Bulldogs 7-0 and 9-1 at Reed Park on Thursday.
The Corsairs were in the middle of a three-game winning streak, and feeling very confident coming into this match ranked first in conference. They have been undefeated since 2009.
The Corsairs dominated the individual matches with the only loss coming against the Bulldogs' Linda Sor, who defeated Emily Spahn 6-1 and 6-3.
"This was good practice for us," said Criss Rodriquez, who won her match 6-0 in both sets. Co-captain Gwendolyn Kauffman also cruised to an easy victory winning both sets 6-0.
It was more of the same results in the doubles matches, with the Corsairs winning all three doubles matches to win the entire match 7-1.
Although she did not compete in her individual match due to a lower back injury she suffered during the spring of last year, co-captain Jutta Collett did compete in the doubles matches along with her partner Katerina Mozolyuk, winning their match in easy fashion.
Meanwhile, Hanna Sacher and partner Gwendolyn Kauffman won their doubles match with little resistance, winning the match by default as the Bulldogs quit after the first set.
The Corsairs look focused with their eye on the state championships, where they are looking to get some revenge against the Saddleback College Gauchos after their loss to them in the finals last year.
"We are confident this year," said Collet of the team's chances of winning the championship.
The Corsairs next match is on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Glendale College where they look to continue their hot streak into the playoffs.
