Upcoming Events: Film Festivals Involving SMC

***Santa Monica College's Prof. Sheila Laffey, with Oscar nominated William Gazecki, premiere their new film at the Palisades Film Festival, May 16, 11:30 AM.

The featured documentary is "Show Me The Way" followed by a Q&A with Co-Directors Laffey, Ph.D. & Oscar Nominated filmmaker William Gazecki & cast.

President Obama, in his speech to the nation in January, said, "Dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country." "Show Me the Way" is a film that shows the positive impact of an age-old and profound method of keeping kids in school: Mentoring. Directors Laffey and Gazecki followed over a three year period the stories of five urban high school kids with diverse backgrounds and needs as they navigate the challenges of home and school life while supported by their dedicated Mentors. "Show Me the Way" demonstrates the importance of the mentoring partnership in both the childrens' and the mentors' lives as they travel down the road to high school graduation.
