Remembering Nipsey
Celebration of Life
The Marathon Continues
Daniel Mateo and his crew pay their respects to Nipsey by painting a mural on a wall in the alley near The Marathon Clothing store off of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles, California on April 6, 2019. Mateo said that it all started when he shared the idea with Nipsey's family, which they really loved, allowing him to start production. The mural is a labor of love and respect, by Mateo, as he responded by sharing that he is there doing it for free and not charging for the work. He said, "We gotta show our respect for Nipsey." When asked if he sees himself embracing any of the principles that Nipsey was popularizing, Mateo said that, "In a way we're all living his life. We are daily hustling, grinding. Hopefully we can take some of his knowledge and help out others, whether it be the community, small organizations. Anything that can pretty much help each other out. Yea, I'm pretty sure ill be doing that." (Jose Lopez)
